This work was inspired by the energy, fearlessness, and determination of young Black women who participate in dirt-bike culture. I wanted to portray a young woman not simply riding, but commanding the space around her. Her airborne pose represents freedom, confidence, and the courage to push beyond expectations. The flames surrounding her intensify that sense of power—she is not running from the fire; she is moving through it.
I want viewers to feel excitement, strength, and possibility. The suspention in a moment that seems almost impossible, which speaks to taking risks and trusting yourself. I also want viewers to reconsider traditional ideas about who belongs in extreme sports and dirt-bike culture. Seeing a young Black woman at the center of this powerful scene is a celebration of visibility, individuality, and fearlessness.
I wanted the viewer to feel as though they are witnessing a split second of freedom in motion—a young Black woman literally and symbolically taking flight.
